Anthrocon's coon report--er, Anthrocoon's Con Report
On Thu I got into the area and easily checked in (because I was pre-registered) to
the Con; took about 1 1/2 minutes. Got my materials, cruised around for a moment,
then headed to the motel near the airport (staying there Thu and Sun to save money).
Many thunderstorms passed through.
On Fri I got back into downtown but had to leave my stuff in the rental car till mid
afternoon as the Omni didn't have a clean room ready for me yet. At 11 am,
there was opening ceremonies starting off with a funny video (w/ fanboy etc.).
Lunch was Chinese at Liang's...a panel had Nonsanity Cat explaining his green
screen techniques. Another was Puppetry 101. I missed the first Floyd Norman
panel but did catch his other two later.
At 5:30 pm or so about 18 or us walked down to Buca di Beppo and had a great dinner!
Maybe we should have left a bit earlier because it was starting to get late and I
didn't want to miss Anthropoly and Kage; well, I did wind up missing the former.
Kage, however, was his usual brilliance (intro video spoofed Alfred Hitchcock). A brief
look at the sky with Astronofurs on the roof.
Saturday led off with the Greymuzzles and Milfurs breakfast which was well attended
and fun. They moved the restaurant to another room, and no more buffet! Rails n Tails
panel discussed model railroads and railroads in general. Lunch was a quick pizza
at Fernando's; later was the fursuiter parade (453!) and then Q&A with Floyd Norman.
Informative and pleasant fun!
Dinner was another buffet at Liang's, then it was Masquerade and then 2 (Jibba
opening up); very funny. Earlier I had bought the Kage Story Hour video plus Floyd's
great raccoon T-shirt--and I gladly paid $10 to the parrot charity to see Kage and
2 together the next day.
Sunday began with breakfast at Steel City Diner (great) followed by another Nonsanity
Cat/Fluff and Such explanation of his video/pawpet techniques. A very quick reuben
sandwich at Pizza & Panini downstairs, then it was the GOH's great "Memories with
the Mouse" followed by Kage and 2--extremely hilarious! By 5:30 it was closing
ceremonies time, led by an exhausted looking (even more than usual) Kage and
the final number was 3,390 attendees! Oh, and of course I pre-regged for next year
right when registration started on Sunday.
Then it was back to the Motel 6 (dinner at Hoss's nearby) and then back home the
next day. Another great Con and it was great to see the usual faces, and the new ones
plus all the hardworking volunteers, the guest of O.K., and more!
